When was the last time you helped a client achieve a successful selling outcome? If it’s been longer than you’d like, you’re not alone. The truth is, most agents go through slow sales periods now and again. In many cases, what separates a representative who struggles from one who will have a long and successful career is how they deal with adversity. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to help you get back on track!

If you’re stuck in a real estate sales slump, here are a few tips you can do to take control…

Get some perspective

Most real estate agents go above and beyond for their clients, and that often means working irregular hours. For this reason, mentally clocking out when you need to can be a challenge—especially when you’re concerned about your recent sales.

Unfortunately, neglecting your work-life balance can lead to feelings of burnout and even impair your decision-making abilities. While it may seem counterintuitive, taking your mind off of the business for a while—whether that means meditating, preparing a meal, or just enjoying the company of friends—is one of the most critical things you can do to stay clearheaded when you’re back on the job.

Stay productive

Getting out of a rut can be incredibly challenging, especially when you’re not sure where to begin. The most important thing is that you take those first steps—whatever they may be. Often, it’s best to start small.

Do you have an old listing presentation that you’ve been meaning to refresh? Perhaps it’s been a while since you updated your CRM. While these tasks may not immediately break you out of your sales slump, they can help you kickstart your creative problem-solving—and provide you with the sense of accomplishment you need to maintain your motivation.

Remember your victories

Remember how you felt the last time you helped a seller? As agents, that feeling can drive us to perform even better the next time around. Unfortunately, during a sales slump, it’s all too easy to forget past successes.

One of the most effective ways to get back into a productive mindset is by thinking about moments when you saw your full potential. Consider reading positive testimonials and “thank you” emails you’ve received as inspiration. When you remember what you’re capable of, you’ll be far more inclined to embrace a positive mindset moving forward.

Reach out

When you’re working in a vacuum, finding solutions can be an uphill battle. That’s especially true when you’ve exhausted all of your potential ideas for drumming up new business. Sometimes, the only way to make progress is by inviting your fellow real estate professionals to assess your approach and provide constructive feedback.

When you’re part of a team like RE/MAX Professionals, your peers are there to advise you—as are industry leaders. It’s one of the biggest advantages that comes with having a strong and supportive network at your fingertips.

Set goals

Career goals can give you something to work towards, but they’ll only help you if they’re reasonable. While there’s nothing wrong with visualizing the outcomes you want to achieve—like a set number of listings or sales—these large objectives can feel unattainable when you’re in a slump.

To take control of the situation, break down large goals into the smaller steps required to meet them. Give yourself time to chip away at what has to be done, and review your progress daily to make sure you’re on track. There’s nothing wrong with making slow-yet-steady headway!
